ELEFTHERIA AND THE MURCIA SYMPHONIC
21 of July 2006
the concert that Eleftheria Arvanitaki will be performing at ESPIRELIA Fetival in Lorca (Murcia) will be really especial, because besides his band, she will be singing with the Murcia Symphonic Orchestra!
Needless to say it again -but more than true at the same time! – Eleftheria Arvanitaki has been one of the most important and central figures in the Greek music for 20 years now. Her artistic temperament and quality does not only register in her personal discography, but also it is present in a big number of guest appearances that Eleftheria Arvanitaki has made in other singers’ albums. These are considered “parallel” as they have been taking place ever since the beginning of the 80s, when Eleftheria Arvanitaki was a member of Opisthodromiki Kompania singing laika and rembetika songs, up to nowadays when her creative restleness and her constant tendency to seek new musical paths has led her to more and wider performance directions – i.e. these recordings have been co-existing with her personal route to Greek music and have inevitably become part of her own repertoire.
Eleftheria Arvanitaki’s new album “To the edges of your eyes” / “Stis akres ap’ ta matia sou” consists of 14 songs that reflect the wide interpretative qualities of this amazing singer and also all the music streams she has approached from time to time. Both traditional and western rhythms, arrangements that are at one time simple and pure and at another time more “danse”like, unique live moments and amazing musical approaches to songs widely known and beloved for the Greek audience – “My love is somewhere” of the great Greek composer Manos Hadjidakis, are the elements of this album, which result in a ‘mosaic’ of colors and sounds reflecting Eleftheria Arvanitaki’s ‘meetings’ with the elit of the Greek song-writers along with her chase for new routes and musical experiences. One such moment is the adaptation of the song “El Universo Sobre Mi” of the Spanish group Amaral that has been a great hit in Spain – and is now becoming among the Greek audience’s favorites! |
