 Biography
There are very few cases like the one of Rodrigo Leao in Portugal: such a talented composer , with such a wide artistic view that he really deserves to be called “master”.

Leão is now at the peak of his career. He started in the 80s founding musical projects like Madredeus and Sétima Legião, but he had so much to give that he decided to start his own project. He was right. After three successful albums - Ave Mundi Luminar, Theatrum y Alma Mater- his latest record is Pasión, a collection of his songs recorded live, an astonishing sales success and prizes that he now presents in a concert.

The artist does not make the mistake of considering Pasión as a simple continuation of the celebrity of his works before. It is much more, new arrangements written expressly for the concerts, surprising musical recalls, happy complicity with his musicians, make his recital a portrait of different possible landscapes.

Finally “Cinema”, Rodrigo Leão's sixth album, has been released in 2004. And it has achieved something really astoinishing (even more in this sort of music): it has climbed to the top of the sales charts in Portugal the very moment it was published! It really deserves it, since it is the most brilliant job of the portuguese composer and musician.

“Cinema” has already been described as "the original soundtrack of our lives", and it does contain enough music to light all kind of stories. In Leão's words, it contains "a melancholy that only belongs to those of us who live by the sea, something that comes out naturally. This music is intimate because it is linked to my own relationship with other people, with my friends, with my world. It is abstract, spontaneous”.

This album includes both instrumental and sung songs, in perfect conjunction “my music is slow, I couldn't writye lyrics that disturb that". This concept also brings great surprises, in the voices of big artists that hace collaborated in the recording: Rosa Passos (Brazil), Beth Gibbons, singer in Portishead (England), Helena Noguerra (Portugal-Belgium) and Sónia Tavares (Portugal), vocalist in The Gift. And the unique pianist Ryuichi Sakamoto!
