Known in Israel by her real name, Achinoam Nini, Noa is on of the most relevant Israeli artist. She is known not only for her recorded works but also for her excellent concerts. Born in Tel- Aviv in 1969, Noa lived in New York from the age of 2 till the age of 17, when she returned to Israel . She studied music at the Rimon School, where she met her friend and collaborator Gil Dor. Together they have written and produced four albums of great success in Israel and another four international albums: "Noa", "Calling", "Blue Touches Blue" and "Now".
Noa has been mostly influenced by the 60´s singer and song writers such as Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell or Leonard Cohen. This musical and lyric sensibility, combined with her Yemeni roots and the musical background of Gil Dor in jazz, classical music and rock, make the sound of Noa and Gil unique.
Since they started to work together in 1990 they have given hundreds of concerts all over the world and received great reviews from critics. They have already visited the Carnegie Hall and the Avery Fisher Hall in New York, the Olympia in Paris, the Zellerbach Auditorium in San Francisco, the Festival Ravinia in Chicago, the Jazz festival of Montreaux and the Paleo Music in Switzerland, , WOMAD in Spain, the Jazz festival North Sea in Holland and the Water Festival in Stockholm.
Noa has always defended dialogue. She was the first Israeli artist to be officially invited to act in Morocco. . She performed live in front of 100.000 people in the act that ended in 1994, the year dedicated to the family by the Vatican . The pope Juan Pablo II was there. She has just performed for him again, in December 2004 . The 4 th of November 1995 she sang in front of 50.000 people in a musical rally for peace in Tel Aviv. Only a few minutes before Yitchak Rabin had been murdered. In 1990 she was awarded the "Crystal Award" by the "World Economic Forum" in Davos, Switzerland, where she has sung many times together with Palestinian artists and where she has taken part in many meetings for peace in the Middle East. She was also invited to sing in Oslo at the event that recalled the treaty of peace signed in that city. In that occasion amongst the public were president Clinton, Ehud Barak, Yasser Arafat and the King of Norway.
Noa and Gil have performed many times together with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Israel. In January 1998 they offered a concert for 20.000 people in the Phildelphias' Corestates Arena with the Israeli Philharmonic and the Philadelphian Philharmonic together, conducted by Zubin Mehta. She has also been on tours with Sting, singing the song "Child of man" with Stevie Wonder, and has shared the stage and the micro with many other big artists.
2001 was an important year for Noa. She had her first child Ayehli, and spent the first year of her son´s life finishing her fourth international album NOW (Universal Music), together with Gil Dor and the producer-programmer Yoad Nevo. A brilliant work, that we will be able to see performed live in 2003. A renewed record where she sings together with a fantastic groups of musicians. Besides, October 2003 will see the publication of her compilation album NOA GOLD.
After the birth of her second child, in the year 2004 Noa makes up a brand new show. This time the usual trio - Noa, Gil Dor and Zohar Fresco- appears on stage with Solis String Quartet, from Napoles (Italy). Together they perform extraordinary concerts, that reflect their individual styles, their curiosity and, most important, a big respect for the the others' job. The result is magic.
... A new surprise comes in 2007 with her new show, “Noa sings Jazz”, a new challenge that will for sure become a new success. In this new project, Noa sings jazz in an strict sense: she sings well-known “jazz standards”, in a kind of tribute to those songs and to their composers. On another hand, she also sings a couple of new songs written by herself that fit well in this new musical concept.
And 2008 is finally the year of NOA's new international album : GENES & JEANS
The best one ever! |
