“Even if I have always lived intensely, since I started to sing in Madredeus my love for music and singing have become my biggest passion, because the music of Madredeus is not fado, is not popular music. It does not answer to a reducing definition. It is a big passion, a music very near to real emotions and to the thoughts of people” This is what Teresa Salgueiro , lead voice of Madredeus says and clarifies as one of the causes of their music.

Though it seems too obvious to refer to any Portuguese artistic movement as an expression of the inevitable saudade, the truth is that the art of Madredeus is a very good sample of that emotion of longing, nostalgia and despair. According to Pedro Ayres, composer and soul of the group “ the saudade is a state in which the person allows himself to feel contradictory feelings and to cherish non orthodox thoughts about love, life and time. The saudade is the key and the reason of our music”

Madredeus has published several records. One of the most recent ones "Movimento", came out in April 2001. It is a work full of songs that lead us to new landscapes, created carefully for the beautiful voice of Teresa Salgueiro. New melodies about the spirit and the heart that take us to different worlds where we can share music. After this they have surprised us with two new works, "Electrónico", a remix of some of their most known themes and the other one, "Euforia", together with the Flemish Radio Orchestra.

In 2004, Madredeus was back with "Um Amor Infinito", dedicated to the milions of followers that, during these years, have enjoyed their music and have shared with them the love fot this unversal language.

And finally, the new album by Madredeus is called "Faluas do Tejo" and has been released in 2005. This album honours the city of Lisbon, starting point of the wonderful musical voyage that the exquisite Portuguese band shares with us. With a title that brings back to our memory the old ships that used to sail Tejo river, this new album shows the brightest side of Madredeus.
